Arles
It is so hot here, 100 degrees today, and it's not that I mind, it's this whole no air conditioning thing that I don't like. I can't wait to get onto the plane that is sure to be freezing cold. Not that I'm anxious to get home, but I've sweated off at least 5 pounds in the heat.
Monday wasn't too eventful. There are several new people in my class, but we continued as normal. In the afternoon I walked around town and discovered new shops, but went home early because the heat was so intense. That night I met Karoline and Kaitlynn for gelato. This time I had banana and dark chocolate. Omg soo good!
Today, Tuesday, after class we went to Arles. It looks just the same as it did two years ago when I was here, and probably about the same as 200 years ago. We saw the ancient roman ampitheatre, colliseum, and all things Van Gogh. We took pictures in the hospital courtyard that he painted while staying there after he chopped off his ear. We also visited Le Cafe that he painted in Le Cafe la Nuit. It was harder to take a picture that looks just like the painting this time because there are so many umbrellas and another cafe in the way. Last time in the winter I was able to get a better picture. Mostly we spent time buying soap, lavender, herbs, and other presents for people at home. Oh, and a beret! The girls told me I HAD to get it. It's red. They want me to wear it for the first day of school-but I think I'll wait until it gets colder. We finished the afternoon with another round of gelato- peach and cassis for me.

One thing is pretty obvious. You whine about not getting the same good photo shoot as you did last time you were in Arles. Somehow that complaint seems a tad annoying. Perhaps if you did not go to Arles every 5 minutes, you wouldn't have all these photo complaints. Hmmmm. If I went to Arles, I would be totally happy with however many cafes there are, as long as I could drink wine and smoke cigarettes. I wouldn't even complain about the heat. That's it. Next year I am going with Behtany and Shelly to the Mediterranean, Provance, Avionne and Arles, Chartre and Lyon and oh yeah, PARIS!! Love, dad
ReplyDeleteHey Shay! So I know that when you decided to get the red beret, you were thinking that you would go to dinner with me and wear it. And I know that the next part of your plan is that when we order, you will speak in English with a French accent. And you will of course bring along "Les Jeux Sont Faits" and "Candide," and we'll have a French read-aloud session and talk about French philosophies and ce dont les auteurs se moquent. En francais, bien sur. Glad I could read your mind. And the waiters will think we're crazy and won't be able to understand us. Actually, they'll think you're crazy. But also cute with the red beret. It should be great. Have fun in France! Come back soon though!
ReplyDeleteBonjour Shay
ReplyDeleteMiss ya

Nance-nice use of "ce dont"!! (i don't know how to get french quotes on here) We HAVE to go to dinner so I can hear all about NY and of course to speak exclusively in French. Too bad you'll miss the red beret when I break it out at school.
ReplyDeleteTreen-miss you too. love you!!! i can't wait to give you your present. aaahhh!
