Fete de la Musique
We spent practically all day at the beach. It was hot, but the cool mediterranean breeze and occasional spray made it tolerable. Tonight was the fete de la musique, a 20+ year annual tradition in France every June 21st. Local bands play all types of music all night in various places around town. It's almost like Jazz Fest except a lot more spread out. The first set I saw was hands down the worst rendition of "I Love Rock and Roll" ever, and just when you thought it couldn't get worse, they sang "Jumpin' Jack Flash." The lyrics were inaudible. Somewhere Mick Jagger is crying. And be sure to catch the giant hello kitty on the guitar. Somewhere Keith Richards is also crying. We then walked along the promenade to hear several different groups. I think the guy in his van with cow print curtains and a drum set, not singing, just playing along to music, might have been my favorite act of the night. More memorable though was Lillia, the australian, who loved to dance. She pulled Crawford in to dance with her, and then I joined in for fun. You can hear me laughing (it sounds like i'm crying) in Crawford's video and him laughing in mine. From there we went to another venue, this time outside of a cafe/bar called Wayne's. They were playing American rock, but look in the picture at the man in the window. He looks like Noah (with the ark). Lastly, we sat on top of these large cement structures on either side of a huge staircase leading to the courthouse. That was the most fun because we could see everything and people watch while listening to the music.
Editor's Note: The internet here is so slow it won't let me post video. I put a lot of pictures up instead. But hopefully I can go somewhere where the videos don't take an hour each to load.

I love that somewhere Keith and Mick are crying! But at least they are playing the songs, such as they are! This description is reminiscent of the French Quarter, especially at the French Quarter Fest but anytime, really, musicians everywhere, people dancing in the streets, people who look like famous people of the past, like Noah, and the most fun is watching all the people! Very French Quartery. Indeed, perhaps next year you could "sell" the trip more economically by bringing the group to the Quarter instead of Nice. Think or the savings!! Hey that cafe that is called "Wayne's", would that be a reference to L'il Wayne? How wild is it in THAT cafe? Post those videos!!!
