Beach Time!
ch
After another fun day of class, we finally got to spend about 5 hours on the beach. Well actually, I spent 5 hours on the beach. Crawford left for an hour to go running and Nicole and Lily left first to find cherries and then to go shopping, though they didn't buy anything. I was left in the sun guarding the stuff. That was totally ok by me. It was hot and sunny and beautiful. We all put on plenty of sunscreen! By the way, the cherries were totally delicious. That's what happens when you buy local. We braved the rocks to try to swim in the sea, but it was so cold we went back- slowly of course, over the rocks. Luckily there was an outdoor shower we used to get wet enough that the sun didn't feel so much like we were cooking in an oven. The best part about the beach is of course, people watching. You can certainly tell who is French and who isn't by what they are, or rather what they are not, wearing.
After dinner, we hiked to what is the remains of a chateau up a ways on a hill overlooking the whole city. There is only one tower of the castle left, but the grounds are a huge park and cemetery, but you go for the spectacular view. We entered the park at 8:00 when it said it was closing, but the gate was open. We walked and walked (uphill) until we finally found the lookout spot on top of the tower. It's not a tall tower, it's more of a large corner tower on a medieval castle. It's not very obvious once you are up there. You end up just walking on top of it. Anyways, after taking pictures there, we started the hike down only to find that the three different gates we tried were all locked. Yikes! Contemplating spending the night in the cemetery, we trudged on. A car passed us a little while later, and we waved it down. They told us how to get out, which we did and walked back to the main Promenade des Anglais. Start to finish we walked for an hour and a half non-stop. So it's not like we aren't getting exercise over here. As a reward, we ate nutella crepes and watched people cheer on France's world cup soccer team.

You neglected to mention, understandably, that the cheering of the French for their soccer team did not help at all as Mexico beat them 2 zip! They don't win wars either! The photos continue to be impressive. The girls look like movie stars on the French Rivera! That you are laying on the beach while the kids go running and shopping is a fact I guess is not lost on their parents!! Let alone nearly staying in the cemetery all night! Very amusing. I wonder if the students who went to Spain are barely escaping being trapped in a graveyard overnight! Press on! The blog is great!
